Greyhound Racing has long been a popular sport in the United Kingdom, and even though its standing is waning, there is still nothing quite like the excitement of a night at the dog track.
Rather like horse racing, there is greyhound racing on nearly every day of the year, all throughout the afternoon and into the evening, meaning that there are plenty of opportunities for a spot of greyhound betting.
Typically, there are six dogs in each race, and they run over a set distance, with the occasional race also featuring hurdles. The biggest races in the greyhound racing calendar are the English and Irish Derbies, with various other top-quality events also taking place across the country.
Popular Greyhound Racing Bets
Win: This is the most popular form of greyhound betting, and it is simply naming the winning dog. On some bookmakers, the name of the dog is not listed, and you will just be given the trap.
Place: This bet gives you a greater chance of winning because if your dog comes either first or second then you are in the money!
Each Way: A popular form of betting in other sports, most notably horse racing, this is one bet that is made up of two separate wagers: a win bet and a place bet. If your dog wins then you will be paid out on both the win and the place bets. If it places, only the place bet will be paid out.
Forecast and Reverse Forecast: A forecast requires you to pick which dog will finish first or second. However, if you are struggling to choose between two, then you can also often do a reverse forecast which means placing a bet on dog A to come first or second and dog B to come first or second. Both dogs must finish in the top two places for this bet to be classed as a winning bet.
There are plenty of other ways to bet on the greyhounds including the standard multiples of doubles and trebles all the way up to accumulators, and it is worth exploring the different options to find out what works best for you.
